How to choose a surveyor
Before you agree, asking about the price alone is not enough. It matters what is included, what the deadline is and who submits the survey report to the cadastre. These questions help you clarify that from the start.
First check that the company is on the official list
Work for the cadastre is carried out by a licensed surveying organisation. The state publishes a list. On our site the list is organised by municipality: list of licensed organisations. For the latest status, also check with the Real Estate Administration (Uprava za nekretnine).
7 questions worth asking before you agree
- What exactly does the price include? Site visit, survey report, submission to the cadastre, any corrections.
- What is the deadline for completion? And by when will you come to the site?
- Who submits the survey report to the cadastre and who follows up on the case?
- What if the cadastre returns the survey report for amendments? Do corrections cost extra?
- What do I need to prepare? A good surveyor tells you straight away.
- Do you work in my municipality? A local surveyor knows the cadastre office and the terrain.
- Can I get the quote in writing? At least a message with the amount, deadline and scope.
What to watch out for
- “I guarantee legalisation” or “I'll get it through the cadastre in two days” — that is decided by the authority, not the surveyor.
- A price without a site visit for a job that requires one.
- A company that is not on the official list.
- Full payment up front without a written agreement.
